Snowbird

Just some shots from my family's vacation to Snowbird. All the rain we'd had that year made everything super green and beautiful. 

The next shot has the red Tram in it. There are two trams, red and blue. I got a couple of shots of each.

If you can see it, there's a sundog in this shot. It was awesome.

Teagan's Darker Side

You may recognize Teagan from my previous shoot with her and Devin. She was kind enough to let me take some pictures of her at Layton Park. I decided to go with a little bit of a Gothy look. I think it worked out pretty good.

This next one is my favorite. It turned out so perfect.

I've been getting tons of complaints that I don't update this blog enough. Which is true. Main reason for this: I don't have internet where I'm living. So, I'm hijacking the internet at my friend's house to show you just a sample of what I've been shooting.

I was only about 15 feet away from this (and one other) moose when I took the pictures.

My parent's recently adopted two new baby kittens! This is one of them, named Rena.

How about an impromptu family portrait session? I had no idea I would be taking these pictures, so I only had about 30 seconds to get ready for it. They turned out alright, I think.

Speaking of impromptu, I was "talked into" going on a campout down at the Salt Flats. I only had about 5 minutes to get ready for it. 

Bridals for my good friend. No, I didn't shoot the picture with no head. I just cut it off until after the wedding. You know, in case her fiance sees this blog.

So, there you have it. Just some of the stuff I've been shooting and working on. I'll really try my hardest to get more of each event up really soon.

Smiles: They're Not Just For Children Anymore

So, one of my hobbies is to browse through the various online photographer ads (like the ones on ksl.com) and find other photographers blogs and web pages. Usually just blogs though. I can actually view blogspot pages at work, so that’s one of the things I do in my down time. I’ve actually found a couple of friend’s photography blogs this way. I’ve run across really fantastic photographers as well as some that are not quite so fantastic.

I’ve started to notice a trend in some photographer’s pictures though. It seems like whenever someone is taking pictures of small children, they want the child to smile as much as they can, which is understandable. Children have great, natural smiles. But, it also seems that when someone is shooting teenagers and adults, they don’t have them smile as much. Lots of the senior pictures and bridals I’ve run across all have one thing in common. The models all have a serious, sometimes sultry look on their faces, which is fine some of the time. But I really think we need to try to get some more smiles in our pictures. People just look so much… happier when they’re smiling.

Now, I’m not trying to say that all pictures have to be of someone smiling. They shouldn’t. Some of my better shots don’t have people smiling. But, they shouldn’t all be serious expressions either. We should find a happy medium of both. But, this is just my opinion on the matter. I’m sure there are people out there who feel differently.

Update: I do have lots of pictures to post, and I will try to get them posted soon. I just don't have internet at my apartment, so it's hard to get them up.

Models: Mark, Mia & Baby Coleen

Mark & Mia are both good friends of mine. I've known them for a while. I was so excited when they asked me to do baby pictures for their little girl, Coleen. I took a ton of pictures, but that's because baby pictures are hard to take. You never can get the subject to pose well. But I think I got some good shots, eh?

Long Time No Post

I'm so sorry that I haven't posted anything in so long! I've had quite a few shoots that I'd like to get up here, but just haven't had the chance to yet. I'll really try my hardest to get them up in the next little while. I promise.

Models: Tracy & Mike--Engagements

Mike is an old friend of mine and I met Tracy through him. They are getting married in December and asked me to do the pictures for their invitations. I, of course, said yes right away. We went to Layton Park for the shoot, which was risky because it was supposed to snow all day. (Which it did, but it wasn't coming down too much.) Even though there wasn't much snow, it was so freezing cold! By the end of the shoot I couldn't feel my hands or my lips. But we got some excellent shots. At least, I think so. Let me know what you think.
